Elimination Guide - PDF download only
It is important to understand that allergies and food intolerance are 2 different things. A True food allergy is immune mediated (IgE based) and will usually present itself with chronic itchy, skin inflammation, constant ear infections and chronic gastrointestinal signs and vomiting. These symptoms will appear soon after digesting the offending ingredient. A True Allergy will benefit from an elimination diet, correctly completely but not leaving the dog on a bland diet forever, by investigating many ingredients to ensure they still get diversity, as this will lead to a healthy immune system.
This Downloadable guide will help you navigate through the elimination diet, providing you with reasoning, recipes and instructions.
An elimination diet is a strict diagnostic process used to identify whether a dog has a true food allergy.
Food allergies involve the immune system reacting to a specific protein, meaning even tiny exposures can trigger symptoms. Because of this, the diet must be followed very carefully.
Purpose
The aim is to identify specific allergen triggers so they can be permanently avoided.
This is not simply about improving symptoms — it is about finding the exact cause.
Key Features
• Very strict — no treats, scraps, flavoured medications, or extras
• Uses a novel or hydrolysed protein source
• Typically lasts 6–12 weeks
• Followed by a controlled reintroduction phase
• Used to diagnose true allergies, not just digestive upsetWhen Is an Elimination Diet Needed?
This approach is usually recommended when dogs show signs such as:
• Persistent itchy skin
• Chronic ear infections
• Ongoing inflammation
• Non-stop gastrointestinal symptoms
• Symptoms that do not fluctuateThis is a Downloadable PDF guide, to help you complete a elimination diet successfully.
Digestive Reset Diet - Suspected Food Intolerance
A food intolerance is not an immune mediated response, unlike a true allergy. You might see less severe symptoms such as mild skin complaints, itching, flatulence, acid reflux, occasional bouts of loose stools. They may come and go and not really correspond to eating certain foods. This can be very frustrating when trying to help your dog. These are symptoms of a digestive system which is not working correctly and not necessarily a reaction to a certain food. So here instead of completing a strict elimination diet, we would be looking to rule out certain intolerance’s and help improve the functioning of the digestive system. Please note this consultation will require you to home cook your dogs recipe for the 6-8 weeks.

A digestive reset diet is a temporary, gentle dietary approach used to calm digestive inflammation and support gut recovery.
Food intolerances are not immune-mediated. Instead, they occur when the digestive system becomes irritated, overwhelmed, or imbalanced.
Because of this, symptoms often fluctuate from day to day.
Purpose
The goal is to:
• Reduce digestive workload
• Calm inflammation
• Support gut lining repair
• Restore microbiome balance
This approach focuses on healing the gut, rather than permanently eliminating foods.
Key Features
• Simple, highly digestible ingredients
• Short-term use (usually 4–6 weeks)
• Gentle on the digestive system
• Not as strict as an elimination diet
• Foods can usually be reintroduced gradually
When Is a Digestive Reset Diet Needed?
This approach is commonly used when dogs experience:
• Intermittent digestive upset
• Acid reflux or sensitivity
• Loose stools that come and go
• Bloating or gut discomfort
• Signs of gut inflammation without allergy symptoms

Feeding a carefully balanced homemade dog food can be especially beneficial for dogs struggling with weight issues, as it gives owners complete control over ingredients, portion sizes, and calorie density. Unlike many commercial diets, homemade meals can be tailored to include lean, high-quality proteins to support muscle mass, fibre-rich vegetables to promote fullness and gut health, and appropriate fats to maintain energy without excess calories. This personalised approach helps avoid unnecessary fillers, hidden sugars, and over-processed ingredients that can contribute to weight gain. When properly formulated, a homemade diet can support steady, healthy weight loss while still meeting a dog’s nutritional needs, improving mobility, energy levels, and overall wellbeing.
