Meet Kathleen and Ned
A Journey from Dog Walking to Canine Nutrition
How it all started…
My name is Kathleen and my journey to all things dog started with my dog Ned. Ned came into our lives in 2015, he was totally mad and filled my heart with love. I had no idea how this little guy was about to change the whole trajectory of my life. At the time I was working in an office but when Ned came along, I wanted to do more with him. I quit my job and started a dog walking business. The past 10 years walking dogs professionally has taught me not just how incredible dogs are but, how to read their body language, how to best approach different situations, and how each dog and each breed is an individual. Working with these dogs and being outdoors has been a privilege.
Ned, my inspiration…
Ned’s unconditional love and unwavering loyalty created a bond that could not be broken. He has brought me so much joy, and I never take a single day with him for granted. All I ever wanted was for him to be in good health and to live along side me as long as possible. I decided that optimising his diet was the best thing I could do for his longevity, as we know, nutrition is the foundation of good health. Looking at what I was feeding him and what I could/should feed him, led me to where we are today. I spent alot of time trying to understand what balanced and complete means and how to achieve it at home.
My Qualifications…
I studied Canine nutrition and completed my Diploma in 2024. Among many others things, this provided me with the knowledge and tools to confidently create meals, which are balanced and complete. I followed my Diploma with further studies on a mentorship program, looking at how nutrition can help heal dogs inside and out. Through the correct nutrition, ailments such as skin issues, gut complaints, ear infections and other common reoccurring problems can be resolved through changes in diet, along side Veterinary diagnostic tools. On completion of the mentorship program I am proud to be a member of the APNC (Association of Pet Nutritional Consultant). I have studied how to use software to create balanced and complete recipes that are formulated to FEDIAF guidelines, which means you can rest assure they are getting what they need, and some more! as the food is fresh and more bio-available.
My feeding Philosophy…
I advocate fresh feeding and encourage variety as much as possible. Rotational feeding is essential as this will allow for a good, strong diverse microbiome. In turn this leads to better long term health and well-being. I also believe that there can be some flexibility when it comes to feeding balanced and complete meals, allowing a little room for changes and extra additions isn’t going to cause a problem. I am not anti kibble, there are times when feeding dry food is more convenient, and for some dogs, prescription diets might be the only solution. However, I would encourage fresh food to be fed as on regular basis, as this provide more bio-available nutrients and moisture.
I absolutely love cooking for Ned, and I’m sure you will feel the same cooking for your beloved dog.
